About The Position

Minneapolis College is seeking a part-time, limited Student Worker Paraprofessional in the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center. This position provides support to the Trio EOC Director, coordinator, staff and participants in areas of providing check-in services to new and current students, intake, data collections and entry. Direct services provided to participants, recruit new participants. Develop outreach materials and support staff presenting at workshops and staffing tabling events. This position may be eligible for partial telework according to the Minneapolis College’s telework guidelines.

Requirements

Must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program. If the student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he or she must be carrying at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, the student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Correspondence or GED classes will generally not satisfy enrollment criteria.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, including telephone, scheduling, intake.
Experience with diverse low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities.
Demonstrated self-starter with good organizational and leadership skills.
Proficient with computer technology including Microsoft Office, e-mail, on-line databases, and internet.
Current and or former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

Assist students with Intake and check in process in Educational Opportunity Center.
Research and provide referrals to appropriate advisors for career, admissions, financial aid, college choice, defaulted loans, or other concerns that may present a barrier to attending a college.
Enter and maintain accurate records.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of TRIO EOC as a welcoming advocate of equity in education.
