About The Position

The Health and Wellness Student Paraprofessional position in the Recreation and Wellness Program within Student Life will assist in the coordination and operation of the Rec Center (Fitness Center, Gymnasium, Dance Room & outdoor spaces), improving student wellness and retention. Direct services provided to participants, recruiting new participants. Support staff in building Recreation and Wellness program, and develop instructional materials.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program. If the student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution they must be carrying at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, the student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter.
  • Demonstrated experience with Health & Wellness/Physical Education or similar area.
  • Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency.
  • Incorporates culturally responsive practices and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, frequently bend, lift, and maneuver items daily, and move and transport items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds regularly.
  • Current and former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Physical Education, Health & Wellness, or similar areas.
  • Knowledge of related equipment.
  • Ability to assist daily operations of the Fitness Center as well as provide work direction to work-study students.
  • Excellent human relations in associating with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and visitors.
  • Experience with organizing and maintaining accurate records, data, and inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in operational oversight to provide a safe and inviting environment conducive to learning and wellness during open hours.
  • Ensure students are following proper procedures for equipment/materials usage.
  • Help maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Provide support to the Student Life department regarding the creation of new or revised Rec Center instructional materials.
  • Create fitness and nutritional plan templates, and support students in creating personalized plans.
  • Meet regularly with the Student Life team (director, coordinators) to report student needs/progress.
  • Provide support to the Student Life department regarding the creation of new or revised Rec Center programs and activities (i.e. group fitness programming and personal training).
  • Maintain records, class materials, resources, and equipment in the Fitness Center.
