About The Position

Tutors provide academic support, in a kind and patient manner, for a variety of subject areas at HCC. All tutors work with students on site in the Learning Support Center. The College seeks to hire the best qualified candidate for each position. To support this philosophy and objective, the Human Resource Department provides a process to allow for a comprehensive search of candidates, inclusive of internal and external applicants.

Requirements

Demonstrate proficiency in the content area(s) for which they apply
Ability to convey knowledge to students at all skill levels
Earned an A or B in the content area to be tutored (or have justified equivalent experience)
Obtain an instructor reference for the content area
Ability to tutor one of the major subject areas: math, science, and/or writing
Complete a tutor information and availability form
Must be a current HCC student for the Fall 2025 semester
Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits
Unless first-semester student, must have attained a 2.0 semester GPA during the last semester attended
Submit unofficial transcript (PDF)

Provide contact information for one or more references who can verify your competence in the subject area(s) you wish to tutor
