About The Position

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada. ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university, local, state, national and international levels.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 credits
  • Perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents
  • Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct
  • Meet all deadlines set forth, attend all required meetings and training, work scheduled hours, properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time, assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada, behave in a manner that is ethical, maintain a high level of integrity
  • Other duties as called upon by my position
  • I understand if I do not adhere to the items outlined in this agreement or what is stated in the ASUN Governing Documents, my position may be subject to disciplinary action by the ASUN Judicial Council and/or the University of Nevada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fields such as sociology, social justice, ethnic studies, gender studies, psychology, education, political science or related social sciences fields through course of study, previous work experience, or extracurricular activities
  • Previous management, mentorship or leadership experience with peers
  • Prior event planning and budgeting experience, either through previous work experience or extracurricular activities
  • Demonstrated involvement in initiatives or organizations focused on promoting inclusivity, diversity and social justice
  • Knowledge of IDEA (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility) principles, frameworks and best practices, with an understanding of systemic inequities and intersectional identities
  • Proficiency to lead a cohesive team
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with politically, ideologically and culturally diverse people and communities
  • Excellent organization and project management skills in a team-based environment with multiple projects
  • Flexibility and adaptability within role; ability to time manage and prioritize tasks
  • Willingness to mentor an intern during the fall and spring semesters
  • Commitment to advancing the foundational pillars of the Home Means Nevada Platform through: Conducting direct outreach initiatives, climate surveys and focus groups to understand and support underrepresented groups
  • Sponsoring events through the Multicultural Center and student coalitions, such as the Multicultural Greek Council, to build visibility and grow spaces for community-building and activism
  • Developing strong connections with the Center for Student Engagement and other campus departments to increase awareness of student resources to promoting accessibility and student belonging
  • Highlighting identity-based communities on campus and in the local community consistently and throughout the academic year
  • Advancing initiatives for continued ADA and physical accessibility infrastructure improvements
  • Expanding understanding of institutional policies and procedures related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including recruitment and retention efforts for underrepresented groups

Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate and oversee the logistics, programming, research and policy analysis of the Department
  • Be required to attend scheduled Department of IDEA meetings unless the presiding officer grants an excused absence prior to the meeting convening and run department meetings in the absence of or at the request of the Director
  • In the case of the vacancy in the Office of the Director of the Department, the Assistant Director shall act as Director until the appointment of a new Director
  • Assist members of the Department in the planning and implementation of all Department events and initiatives
  • Plan, organize and execute the curriculum of the IDEA Internship program to include Producing the education components to include sentiments such as: multicultural awareness, student activism, event planning, policy analysis, data analysis, time management and leadership skills
  • Presentations or guest speakers that increase the learning mission of the program
  • Coordinating a system where interns will report to the officer in the Department of IDEA that the Assistant Director deems appropriate
  • Will serve as oversight and liaison to IDEA Interns
  • Review candidates for the IDEA Internship for eligibility with the assistance of the administrative faculty of the Center for Student Engagement
  • Responsible for attending all ASUN retreats, and trainings as decided by the Director of IDEA and the Director of Executive Outreach.
