About The Position

Under the supervision of the Health Educator, the Wellness Peer Educator will support the Stockton University Wellness Center in promoting student health, wellness, and overall well-being. This position involves assisting with outreach programs, workshops, and events focused on topics such as stress management, mental health awareness, substance use prevention, nutrition, and healthy relationships. Peer Educators serve as role models and resources for fellow students, helping to create a positive and supportive campus environment.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the NASPA Certified Peer Education (CPE) online course upon hiring
  • Excellent communication skills including interpersonal, written and oral
  • Effective organizational and administrative skills
  • Timeliness and attention to details in work functions

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Health Educator with Health and Wellness Center workshops and events that may include evening and weekend hours
  • Developing, promoting and presenting workshops relevant to current health issues within the campus community
  • Attend weekly mandatory staff and planning meetings, one-on-one scheduled meetings, training, peer educator office hours, programming and events
  • Working in collaboration with other Wellness Center staff and community vendors at events
  • Working with other students who have already been trained as peer educators or those that desire to become peer educators
  • Educating students about Wellness Center services and providing referrals where needed
  • Work an average of 5 hours per week or more budget permitting, providing on campus education in the form of workshops, and programming as the primary facilitator, co-facilitator or helping Wellness Center staff
  • Maintain cleanliness of the peer educator working area, peer educator storage and supplies closet including the set-up and break-down from events
  • Check and respond to email and text messages sent by supervisor promptly
  • Bi-weekly progress reports and timesheets must be completed documenting time spent along with a description of how time was spent
  • Maintain correct hours and descriptions for time spent in time sheet folder. Only document hours worked or approved by the supervisor.
  • Complete online peer education training and exam through NASPA. Upon successful completion of the program, you will become a certified Peer Educator.
  • Maintain a semester grade point average of 2.5 and a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 during the active term of this contract.
  • Have no current or future violations of campus policy are acceptable and peer educators are expected to conduct themselves in ordinance with the University's Code of Conduct which can be found in the Student Handbook on Stockton University's website at:
  • Strive to be non-judgmental, responsible, dependable, and function as a resource to individual students and groups. Always maintain a high level of ethical standards while adhering to all federal, state and local laws, as well as University policies.
  • Strive to be a positive role model for responsible and healthy lifestyle choices. This extends to on and off campus, both physically in the community and through all forms of social media.
  • Maintain confidentiality by not sharing any specific information about persons or situations with anyone other than the immediate supervisor unless someone reveals that they want to hurt themselves or someone else. In that instance, if the supervisor is not accessible, immediately notify Stockton police, and/or the complex director on duty.
  • Maintain confidentiality of any student seen in the Wellness Center including but not limited to discussions with of any aspect of assisting students, responding to crises, or any student information they encounter as a result of their position to their peers (other than Peer Educators and supervisors) in order to provide services and adhere to the policies of the University, State and Federal law.
  • Adhere to all listed job responsibilities and expectations. If the performance of any peer educator is of concern, the following guidelines are to be viewed as a minimum range of responses. The process for the procedure related to concerns, warnings, probation and termination considerations will be sent in the form of an email to the Peer Educator.
  • Meet the following milestones by the end of the semester in the mid-semester progress report to continue employment as Peer Educator:
  • Understand all performance-related concerns will be managed on a case-by-case basis. Upon becoming aware of any situation(s) of concern the supervisor will refer to the following guidelines:
  • Call supervisor within 48 hours if unable to attend meetings or programs, if late for work or cannot cover office hours as needed. Do not remove your name from the sign-up sheet without speaking to the supervisor. Try to get another peer educator to fill in.
  • Other duties may be added, as necessary.
