About The Position

Beloit Health System is seeking a Student Ultrasonographer to join their team. This role involves performing patient assessments, procedures, and providing care using ultrasonography under the direct supervision of an ARDMS sonographer. Key responsibilities include reviewing patient symptoms, explaining procedures, ensuring patient comfort during testing, and maintaining accurate documentation and patient records. The student will learn to recognize various pathological states and adapt exams for appropriate diagnosis, reporting any abnormalities to the supervising sonographer. The position also requires setting up and operating ultrasound equipment and transducers, reviewing all images with an ARDMS sonographer before submission to the Radiologist and patient discharge, and demonstrating proficiency with relevant computer software applications. The individual must be able to work independently, react calmly in emergencies, interpret and apply hospital policies, adhere to ethical conduct, maintain patient confidentiality, and follow instructions from physicians under supervision.

Requirements

  • Second year student in an accredited School of Medical Sonography
  • Has passed physics board exam
  • CPR certified within three months of hire
  • Ability to work independently and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply proper procedure to Beloit Memorial Hospital policies
  • Must adhere to established hospital and medical imaging department policies, rules and regulations
  • Maintain ethical conduct and keep confidential personal and medical information about patients
  • Receives and follows oral and written instructions from physicians under supervision of ARDMS sonographer

Responsibilities

  • Perform assessments, procedures and care for the patient with medical uses of ultrasonography under supervision of an ARDMS sonographer
  • Perform patient assessments, review symptoms and explain procedure to be performed to the patient under the supervision of an ARDMS sonographer
  • Provide comfort measures during testing
  • Ensure proper documentation of exam and procedure and maintain accurate patient records
  • Recognize various pathological states and know how to alter the exam to make an appropriate diagnosis
  • Report abnormalities to the supervising sonographer
  • Set up and operate equipment and transducers appropriately
  • Review all images with an ARDMS sonographer prior to submission to the Radiologist for interpretation and prior to the patient being discharged
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform functions accurately and efficiently with computer software application appropriate to position
  • Work independently and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Interpret, adapt and apply proper procedure to Beloit Memorial Hospital policies
  • Adhere to established hospital and medical imaging department policies, rules and regulations
  • Maintain ethical conduct and keep confidential personal and medical information about patients
