The Student Support Services Liaison is directly responsible to the executive director of special education and the building principal and to assist in the supervision, and assist in the training of the special education initiatives and supports. The Student Support Services Liaison is responsible to plan, lead, facilitate, and provide instruction in the Interrelated Classroom in their assigned school(s). This role supports the implementation of the school improvement plan, assists the building principal's use of data to monitor and adjust as necessary the action plan and goals of the special education programs/services in the assigned school(s), and helps the building principal to develop and implement a proactive and positive approach to behavior management including oversight of functional behavioral assessments and individual behavior plans as needed. The liaison also assists the building principal in the framework for staff to monitor student progress in academic, social, behavioral, and individual education plan (IEP) goals/objectives as directed through the IEP team. They support instructional guidelines established by the district, lead professional development activities, and help teams individualize instruction for struggling learners. The position supports students with disabilities having access to a variety of activities that support their leadership, physical, emotional, social and educational growth in the least restrictive environment. Furthermore, the liaison reviews and writes IEPs, provides guidance to IEP teams, promotes a positive culture of learning and collaboration, and builds and sustains partnerships with families, related service providers, general education staff, and community partners.
