About The Position

The Student Support Assistant, Internships and Career Futures supports the administration and growth of undergraduate and graduate internship and career readiness programs within the Department of English. This entry-level professional role is ideal for an individual interested in student support, program coordination, and higher education. Working under the supervision of the Director of Internships and Career Futures Program, the Student Support Assistant, Internships and Career Futures serves as a key point of contact for students, helping facilitate internship experiences, career exploration, and academic success. The role includes responsibilities in student engagement, program operations, communications, alumni relations, and public relations, with an emphasis on marketing, digital content, and visual design to promote program initiatives. This position is designed to support professional growth, with opportunities to develop in the areas of advising, project management, and build on the higher education experience over time, with a clear pathway for increased responsibility and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree and one (1) year of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the coordination and day-to-day administration of undergraduate and graduate internship and career readiness programs (in-person and online) in support of student success and retention.
  • Serves as a primary student support contact, providing guidance, resources, and referrals related to internships, career exploration, and academic success, with increasing responsibility as experience is gained.
  • Progressively develops advising skills and professional judgment, with the opportunity to take on increased responsibility in student coaching, academic advising support, and career readiness guidance as experience grows.
  • Monitors student internship progress and responds to questions or concerns, exercising sound judgment and escalating complex or sensitive issues as appropriate.
  • Provides front-line customer service and student support to students, faculty, staff, and visitors, offering accurate information and directing individuals to appropriate academic and career resources.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive student information in compliance with university policies (e.g., FERPA).
  • Utilizes university systems and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, PeopleSoft, E2E or similar systems) to support student services, track requests, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Supports intake, triage, and routing of student inquiries to appropriate academic or administrative units.
  • Supports administrative processes such as internship documentation, course overrides, academic registration support, and student record management.
  • Maintains and updates data tracking systems (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, dashboards) to monitor student participation, internship progress, and program outcomes, demonstrating strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Assists with tracking student outcomes and alumni placements; supports data collection and basic program reporting.
  • Assists with and facilitates student program initiatives, including onboarding, orientations, workshops, and career readiness programming (virtual and in-person), including occasional evening and weekend events as needed.
  • Supports coordination of events and program logistics, including scheduling, communications, space management, and on-site event support.
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, campus partners, and alumni to support student program initiatives, student engagement, and recruitment efforts.
  • Assists in maintaining relationships with internship partners and employers by supporting communications, outreach, and coordination activities.
  • Manages program communications, including shared email inboxes, student outreach, alumni communications, and the development and distribution of program newsletters, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Coordinates scheduling and communications using collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Zoom, Google Workspace or similar platforms).
  • Supports outreach, recruitment, and engagement efforts by helping identify and connect with prospective students and alumni partners.
  • Develops and implements program marketing and outreach materials, including social media content, digital and print graphics, and promotional campaigns.
  • Maintains and updates program web pages and online content to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and visual and ASU branding consistency.
  • Assists in promoting events, student opportunities, alumni engagement initiatives, and program achievements through multiple communication channels, including email campaigns and newsletters.
  • Supports public relations efforts by helping draft and share program highlights, student and alumni success stories, and promotional content.
  • Tracks and analyzes engagement metrics (e.g., email campaigns, social media, event participation) to inform outreach strategies and improve program visibility and effectiveness.
  • Designs visually engaging materials using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or Canva to enhance program visibility, branding, and engagement.
  • Assists in identifying opportunities to improve program processes, communications, and overall student experience, with opportunities to take on increasing ownership of projects and initiatives over time.
  • Participates in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Builds on prior experience in a student or administrative support role within a higher education setting to transition into an entry-level professional position with increasing responsibility and autonomy.
