About The Position

Macon R-1 School District is seeking a Middle School Student Success Room and Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Extra Duty positions may be available when filling secondary positions. The Middle School Student Success/JAG teacher provides an education that will empower students to succeed in school, career, and life by blending academic support with workforce readiness, leadership development, and mentorship through the JAG program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience working with middle school students, especially at-risk youth
  • Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices
  • Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work independently
  • Commitment to student success, equity, and career readiness
  • Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Implements a comprehensive Student Success and Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program to support students in overcoming barriers to academic and career success.
  • Identifies, recruits, and supports students who face challenges to school success, promotion, and high school readiness.
  • Designs, delivers, evaluates, and revises engaging instruction aligned to the JAG curriculum using project-based learning, hands-on activities, and collaborative strategies.
  • Administers program assessments including pre/post tests and career interest inventories to measure student growth and program effectiveness.
  • Provides direct instruction in employability skills, leadership development, and career exploration.
  • Establishes and leads a JAG Career Association to promote student leadership, teamwork, civic engagement, and community service.
  • Supervises and manages a structured Success Room environment to support students requiring academic and/or behavioral intervention.
  • Implements behavior intervention strategies, restorative practices, and de-escalation techniques to support positive student outcomes.
  • Supports students in developing self-regulation, accountability, and effective decision-making skills.
  • Collaborates with teachers and administration to address student academic performance and behavioral concerns.
  • Assists students with completing assignments, improving academic performance, and staying on track for graduation.
  • Monitors student attendance, behavior, and academic performance to identify needs and implement timely interventions.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of student progress, interventions, and program outcomes.
  • Reinforces school-wide expectations and supports positive behavior systems.
  • Provides transition planning and follow-up services to ensure student success beyond middle school.
  • Maintains accurate and timely data entry in the JAG Force system to ensure program compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Builds and maintains positive, professional relationships with students, families, school staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Connects students and families to appropriate school and community resources as needed.
  • Collaborates with school staff and support teams to align services and improve overall student outcomes.
  • Participates in school committees, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Promotes awareness and understanding of the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program within the school and local community.
  • Assists with school-wide initiatives, events, and activities that support student engagement and school culture.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to local, state, and federal policies, as well as program guidelines.
  • Demonstrates continuous professional growth and commitment to student success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinates with the high school Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Specialist to ensure continuity of services and a smooth transition for students between middle and high school programs.
  • Perform school-related duties such as supervision, lunch duty, or hall monitoring
  • Assist with field trips, events, and student activities
