About The Position

The Student Success and Career Coach is a key member of the Center for Academic Excellence at Bethune-Cookman University. This role is responsible for supporting students' academic progression and career readiness through integrated, developmental, and relationship-based coaching. The Coach provides individualized and group-based support to help students identify, plan for, and achieve their academic and professional goals. By fostering essential skills such as time management, self-regulation, self-efficacy, and intentional career exploration, the Coach contributes directly to student retention, persistence, and post-graduation success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, career development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in academic advising, career services, or student success coaching in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience using developmental and intrusive academic advising or coaching models.
  • Strong understanding of student development, career readiness competencies, and employability trends.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, career development, or a related discipline.
  • Nationally recognized certification in academic or career coaching (e.g., NCDA, NACE, FCD, GCDF).
  • Experience working at an HBCU or with underrepresented, first-generation, and non-­ traditional college students.
  • Proficiency with academic advising and student success technologies (e.g., Navigate 360, Jenzabar, Wildcat Web, Handshake, Focus2Career, Upswing).

Responsibilities

  • Academic Success Coaching Deliver intrusive and developmental academic advising and coaching for a caseload of new and continuing students.
  • Assist students in building effective learning strategies, time management skills, and self­ directed behaviors that promote academic achievement.
  • Monitor academic progress and implement proactive interventions using data from student success platforms (e.g., Navigate 360, Jenzabar, Wildcat Web).
  • Facilitate workshops and one-on-one sessions on academic skills, college transition, and student success strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all student interactions and follow-up communications.
  • Career Coaching and Preparation Guide students in identifying career interests, developing career goals, and mapping those goals to academic plans.
  • Assist with resume development interview preparation, job search strategies, and graduate school planning.
  • Integrate career development conversations into academic advising appointments beginning in the first year.
  • Connect students to experiential learning opportunities, including internships, co-ops, undergraduate research, and on-campus employment.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Career Success and faculty to align academic pathways with labor market demand and student interests.
  • Campus Collaboration and Student Advocacy Partner with faculty, advisors, and career services staff to provide holistic and coordinated student support.
  • Support university-wide retention and completion initiatives, including orientation and early alert interventions.
  • Serve as an advocate and mentor, helping students navigate university systems and eliminate barriers to success.
  • Contribute to the assessment and continuous improvement of student success and career readiness programs.
