About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Student Success Advocate will be responsible for planning, developing, and facilitating student college success and college readiness workshops for specialized student populations. This position will be assigned by campus and will be responsible for establishing relationships and planning recruitment events with community agencies within Broward County to provide support to these specialized populations. Collaboration with other departments is required in the planning and execution of events, case management functions and specialized interventions. ----- This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required preferably in psychology, education or social work. Master’s Degree preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Four years of experience in higher education or social services.
  • Ability to multi-task and oversee multiple initiatives and projects for the department/unit
  • Advanced computer software skills required. Easily navigates the Internet; performs searches
  • Requires general understanding of own work and how it impacts operations outside own work unit.
  • Ability to recognize needs of unit and how it impacts other areas at College and understand own role relative to all areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to represent the work area and the larger Broward community

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with college students and assisting in the development and implementation of retention strategies strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for retention initiatives developed through Seahawk Outreach Services (SOS).
  • Develops, coordinates and executes seminars, workshops, and events to communicate strategies aimed at improving students’ college readiness and success.
  • Informs and refers students as needed to both campus and community resources. Identifies and coordinates appropriate financial and social wrap-around services to address and resolve potential barriers.
  • Researches and evaluates available community services. Coordinates and facilitates outreach to community agencies, high schools, etc. to identify prospective students in specialized populations. Responsible for student follow-up and communication to resolve potential barriers.
  • Responsible for providing utilization and success data to the Coordinator of Student Success.
  • Monitors academic progress of students participating in SOS programming.
  • Works collaboratively with Coordinator of Student Success, faculty, student success coaches, and advisement staff to develop strategies for keeping at-risk students in classes.
  • Represents Seahawk Outreach Services at New Student Orientation and other campus events to provide awareness of services available, and actively promotes program-related communication among campus community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Trains and coordinates work of lower-level, office support staff, student employees, and/or temporary staff
