RAHI is a unique six-week college prep program at UAF that helps rural and Alaska Native students explore higher education, earn college credits, and participate in enriching activities. As a Tutor Counselor, you'll play a central role in shaping the student experience. From tutoring and mentoring to leading recreational events and building a supportive community, you’ll inspire students to grow academically and personally. With your assigned family group of 6-10 students, you'll guide them through this life-changing journey while developing your own leadership, communication, and organizational skills. To excel as a Tutor Counselor, you should be a natural communicator and role model who thrives in fast-paced, team-oriented environments. Strong interpersonal skills, a knack for conflict resolution, and the ability to juggle responsibilities with maturity and initiative are essential. Experience working with high school students, especially in educational or dorm settings, is highly recommended. A background in supporting Alaska Native and rural youth, along with knowledge of policies for working with minors, will set you apart. Tutor Counselors work under the general direction of the RAHI Dorm Director and are required to live on campus, work up to 60 hours per week, and be available on-call. Due to the nature of this program, Tutor Counselors should expect to have little free time during the program
