About The Position

Student Services Coordinator UMGC Asia Overseas Contingent III, Full-Time 100% FTE, Grade 003 Location: Yokota Administrative Headquarters, Japan The Student Services Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Director, Academic Operations and Student Services. Each coordinator provides subject matter expertise for his/her area of specialization while also being cross trained to provide service in each specialized area of student services (admissions, enrollments, GoArmyEd, transcripts, grades, records, financial aid, veteran’s affairs and other areas as needed). The Student Services Coordinator provides training, support, and policy enforcement oversight, and implements strategies for increased operational efficiencies, customer satisfaction, and positive stakeholder relationships.

Requirements

  • Progress towards a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or equivalent
  • Previous office experience and working in a team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and commitment to customer service
  • Ability to work effectively in a self-directed, team-based work environment.
  • Ability to understand and apply team quality and performance standards.
  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Applicants with individual logistic support (ILS) preferred.
  • Must be U.S. Citizens.
  • Applicants must qualify for ILS. Criteria under which applicants qualify for ILS are: must serve the U.S. Forces exclusively; are not stateless persons; and are not ordinarily a resident in the host nation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain training and certification programs for his/her area of specialization and provide training for Military Education Coordinators and staff as needed.
  • Provide troubleshooting and operational support to field staff (Military Education Coordinators and Academic Advisors) in all areas of student services (admissions, enrollments, GoArmyEd, transcripts, grades, records, financial aid, veteran’s affairs)
  • Liaison for his/her area of specialization with the UMGC overseas and stateside regions
  • Work collaboratively to establish best practices and assist with identification of issues, problems, and procedures.
  • Monitor the area of specialization to ensure compliance with UMGC contract requirements and university guidelines.
  • Plan, coordinate and organize student outreach activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Retirement Stipend: Contingent III employees receive a retirement stipend equal to 7.25 percent of their base salary and are eligible to contribute to a supplemental retirement account (SRA).
  • Supplemental Retirement Plans: include 403(b), 457(b), and various Roth options. The university does not provide subsidies or matching funds.
  • Tuition Remission: CIII employees are eligible immediately for Tuition Remission at UMGC or at University of Maryland College Park. Spouses and dependent children are eligible for undergraduate tuition remission after two years of service. NOTE: For part-time employees (at least 50 percent of the time), tuition remission benefits are prorated.
  • Moving Allowance: May be available based on terms, conditions, and agreements of the position.
