About The Position

The Student Services Coordinator for Student Accessibility Services is a key member of the Office of Student Accessibility Services team and will report to the Director of Student Accessibility Services. The Student Services Coordinator will assist the Director with the student accommodations request process from inquiry to activation for qualified students with disabilities. The Student Services Coordinator is the initial point of contact for students with disabilities, including cognitive, psychiatric, medical, and sensory conditions. The Student Services Coordinator will work with the Director of ensure students receive accommodations and the University is in compliance with the regulations. This position is designed to assume responsibilities in the coordination of educational accommodations, while also being prepared to scale up and refer to the Director in responding to higher-level needs, emerging priorities, or institutional initiatives.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with University staff, faculty, students, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
  • Independent problem-solving and teamwork in complex situations
  • Proficiency with office software and student case management systems
  • Knowledge of ADA, Section 504, and related state and federal disability laws and their application to higher education
  • Experience determining reasonable academic accommodations at the post-secondary level, including knowledge of assistive technology including note taking and books in alternate formats
  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)
  • 1-3 years direct experience in higher education preferred

  • Master’s Degree in education, counseling, behavioral science, disability services, or related field (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Reviews documentation and approves reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Meets with students with disabilities to discuss individual needs and provides intake functions that include discussing the impact of their condition on their ability to fully participate in the educational experience to determine reasonable accommodations
  • Communicates with students, parents / guardians, and campus partners to establish and maintain reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Makes appropriate referrals and proposes additional support services to students with disabilities, including academic support services at the University, co-curricular support at the University, or external resources outside of the University
  • Assist in the administrative oversight of services and resources for students with disabilities, include, but not limited to testing accommodations, academic assistance, auxiliary aids, note taking assistance, readers, scribes, and others as necessary
  • Utilize appropriate case management system(s) to maintain files with confidential student information
  • Coordinates exam accommodations with graduate student proctors
  • Assist with accessibility audits and creating accessible versions of printed and promotional materials for distribution to students, parents / guardians, and campus partners
  • Represent the department at campus events, meetings, or initiatives in collaboration with or in place of the Director when appropriate
  • Hire, train and supervise student employee positions: Office Assistants (5-7 undergraduate students)
  • Develop and deliver educational trainings, workshops, and materials to students, faculty, and staff members
  • Serve as an institutional resource for faculty and staff to ensure effective implementation of approved accommodations, and answer / address questions or concerns.
