About The Position

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is located in the heart of downtown L.A. and is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking a Student Services Advisor II in the Academic Service Hub. The largest and oldest of the USC schools, USC Dornsife functions as the academic core of the university, offering courses and advancing knowledge across the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Based on a divisional framework, Academic Services Hubs will provide staff support to approximately 35 departments across Dornsife. Each hub will serve one division and the number of departments per division varies. The mission of the Dornsife Academic Service Hubs is to provide optimal, localized support to academic departments by providing specialized services that foster the academic, instructional, and research-driven engagement of faculty, staff and students in the Dornsife community. The Student Services Advisor II in the Social Sciences will manage department activities within the hub, which may include but will not be limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Additional Education Requirements Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
  • Minimum Experience: 3 years
  • Minimum Skills: Directly related experience in student services and programming with ability to lead

  • Experience with data analysis and assessment to inform student support initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance to other student services advisors who perform similar work.
  • Counsels or advises prospective students and families
  • Advises on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation, graduation counseling and clearance
  • Assists in the planning and execution of recruitment strategies and programs for a major academic programs
  • Assists in the preparation or update of bulletins, newsletters, handbooks, guides, fact sheets and brochures
  • Plans and coordinates student events including commencement, orientation, receptions, and award ceremonies
  • Evaluates student problems, academic, administrative or personal, and refers student to appropriate student services office for additional counseling
  • Serves as advisor to student groups and organizations
  • Maintains currency on policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to admissions, financial aid, registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, graduation requirements, petitions and other student services.
