About The Position

Reporting to the Director of the TRIO Grant, the Student Service Advisor is responsible for managing a case load of students from time of acceptance to the college through graduation. This position will assist with educational planning, enrollment completion, testing requirements, academic advisement, registration assistance, communication assistance, monitoring academic progress, obtaining academic support, counseling services, accommodations, career services, community based supports and other auxiliary services deemed detrimental to student success. This position is considered integral to facilitating the institutional strategic goal of student success as measured by through persistence, retention and completion.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Student Personnel Administration, Education, Counseling or related field.
  • At least one year of experience working in higher education.
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar program for diverse, low-income and/or first-generation college students
  • One to two years of experience providing case management services and advising students on comprehensive educational planning, financial aid processes, and financial literacy or college teaching experience with a similar student population as that targeted by the SSS project
  • Possesses a high degree of personal and professional integrity and commitment to the mission of Trocaire College
  • Possess strong interpersonal, written, research and organizational experience.
  • Understanding concerns of students in career focused education.
  • Have evidence of a caring and supportive attitude for student success.
  • Flexibility and ability to remain open minded.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple tasks.
  • Ability to identify alternative solutions.
  • Computer literate in a student information system, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Internet, and Social Media

Nice To Haves

  • Professional and/or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those facing project participants is preferred
  • Understanding of Student Affairs policy, law, compliance, and best practices of the profession

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the coordinator of the SSS project, providing intrusive academic, career, and personal development advising to participants to improve retention, good academic standing, and graduation.
  • Develop, maintain and update participants' educational action plans
  • Document and monitor participant progress. Maintain systematic and frequent contact with participants. Assist with the development of reports, data analysis, and assessment of student engagement and success
  • Consult with college personnel regarding participant needs, interventions and progress
  • Arrange workshops (time management, study skills, financial literacy, etc.) presentations, experiential learning and field trips for participants
  • Work with program faculty and career office to place SSS participants into work-based learning opportunities
  • Provide on-on-one financial literacy counseling
  • Support the Trocaire College Mission.
  • Provide case management as described above to an assigned case load of enrolled students
  • Maintain current knowledge of academic requirements, institutional policies and procedures to ensure student success.
  • Offers academic, career and personal support to guide students through the course selection process.
  • Advises students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Assists students with clarifying values and goals.
  • Administer advisement-based retention activities such as Early Alert, Mid-Term Warnings, and other means of monitoring academic progress.
  • Meet with identified students to develop Academic Plans to ensure Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Contribute to the retention efforts of the institution through collaborative and cooperative initiatives
  • Refers students to appropriate campus resources for assistance and support.
  • Provide workshops and instructional opportunities to students on student success strategies.
  • Provide counseling and assistance to students changing programs or transferring from the college.
  • Perform duties at all Trocaire locations.
  • Participate in local, regional, and/or national professionally-related organizations and/or participate in professional training opportunities.
  • Assist Student Affairs colleagues with events, activities and initiatives that contribute to student success effort.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
