About The Position

The Research Assistant will be supporting faculty work in medieval Islamic history, with a special focus on Abbasid and Mongol Baghdad. Responsibilities include research, bibliographic support, and assistance with preparation of scholarly materials.

Requirements

• Strong academic writing and research skills
• Coursework in Islamic history, Mongol History, Historical Methods, and/or Historiography
• Familiarity with library databases and citation management tools
• Attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work independently

Nice To Haves

• Interest in developing DH skills related to mapping or textual data is a plus

Responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews related to medieval Baghdad (urban history, social and political history, religious communities, topography, etc)
• Compile and organize primary and secondary sources; assist with creating and maintaining bibliographies (Chicago style)
• Support analysis of chronicles, biographical dictionaries, and geography manuals (in translation)
• Assist with data organization for ongoing research projects (e.g., notes, timelines, prosopographic datasets)
• Other duties as assigned
