About The Position

The Student Personnel Officer directly supervises the student personnel assistant and is responsible for the operation of the student personnel function, which includes the behavioral management system and legal services, and assists with the management of significant incidents in compliance with government and management directives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years related experience required, one of which should be supervisory
  • Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the administrative and programmatic activities of the department
  • Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance and implement departmental changes as approved by the center director and coordinated with the manager, human resources prior to implementation
  • Develop departmental budget, monitor and control expenditures, and review and recommend changes to budget authorizations, as appropriate
  • Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting student services and coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance with overall center objectives
  • Regularly assess and audit department for contractual compliance and quality of services to students; prepare reports on audits and assessments
  • Determine and administer disciplinary action for students who have violated rules of conduct; counsel students when their behavior on and off center is inappropriate
  • Administer the assigned student incentive program components
  • Coordinate legal services for students; provide liaison with legal services, court systems, parole officers and other law enforcement agencies as related to student behavior
  • Maintain updated student handbook and behavior management system
  • Conduct orientation and training on behavioral management system for staff and students
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.
