The Accelerated Sanford Student Nurse Internship Program is a paid internship created specifically for accelerated nursing students with a key focus on flexibility of hours. In this internship, you will work one-on-one under the guidance of an experienced nurse preceptor to allow for hands on learning in the hospital setting. The required hours are 12-36 hours per month to ensure that you can adjust the number of hours worked per month to pair with your school schedule. Sanford wants to invest in you by providing this early partnership that will expand your clinical skills and knowledge. The Sanford nursing intern participates in a learning experience designed to develop confidence and competence in clinical skills to facilitate a smooth transition into a licensed role after graduation. The internship program assists students in finding an area of nursing clinical practice that best fits their career goals, talents and interests. The intern will be mentored by an licensed professional in his/her specialty to strengthen clinical skill sets. The intern cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. The intern discovers enhanced ways of communicating and supporting patients, learning what it is like working as a licensed professional in their field, while following a real schedule. Performs tasks of direct and indirect patient care and supports the activities of the department. Utilizes appropriate population-specific patient care protocols and policies related to the physical and psychological needs of all ages of patients. Embodies the vision and values that are compatible with Sanford Health. The intern functions within the scope and standards of practice as outlined in the state specific regulations.

Requirements

• Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited RN program (associate or bachelor degree) and have participated in an academic clinical experience.
• Must be enrolled in a board of licensed clinical practice approved internship course. This does not apply to internships held in the state of South Dakota.
