About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct the administrative function required to supervise, evaluate and monitor staff for student safety on third shift. The coordinator has a vital role in creating a thriving campus culture that fosters diversity and inclusion while supporting student success. This position will work collaboratively with various departments to ensure that students have access to resources and services that cater to their needs. The ideal candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as demonstrate outstanding organizational and leadership capabilities. They will also nurture relationships with existing student groups to provide mentorship, opportunities for growth and development, and offer guidance for career readiness. As the Student Life Coordinator, you will be an integral part of shaping the future of post-secondary education through dynamic role modeling learning and student-centered support. This is a full time (40 hours per week); 11-month position (no work in July).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development, special education, education or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience with the population served, in a residential program, or in a goal-oriented program; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of the above experience.
  • or Associate’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of the above experience, one of which must have been supervisory.
  • or High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and five years of the above experience, two of which must have been supervisory.

Responsibilities

  • Staff Supervision: Prepares and manages time of staff, coordinates dorm coverage and approving appropriate timekeeping documentation weekly. Attends mandated meetings, workshops and training exercises. Hiring, recruitment, training and personnel action of assigned staff. Responds to phone calls, memos, letters and other types of communication from NCSD staff, parents, and public. Responds/follows up with incident reports and consequences, referral and communicating with management chain of command. Meets regularly with staff, shares information and elicits ideas and feedback. Submits requests for maintenance of facilities and equipment. Observes staff in their work area and makes constructive evaluations and recommendations. Schedules staff to attend mandated trainings and workshops. Assists staff in securing professional resources to assist in training and/or providing specific care for students. Discusses students with assigned staff on an ongoing basis. Supervises staff to ensure student’s living conditions are clean and properly maintained.
  • Student Supervision: Monitors students on an ongoing basis to evaluate safety and program involvement. Consults with students, individually or in groups, and advises them on personal problems, and situations involving social, moral and personal conduct; enforcing dormitory rules and regulations and reports serious infractions; promotes harmonious living conditions among students. Communicates with parents by letter and/or phone if needed concerning their family members. Monitors dormitory study hall and dormitory activities after school, providing supervision and/or consultation for assigned dormitories. Monitors cafeteria supervision. Coordinates transportation for activities during shifts. Arranges interpreters as needed. Arranges care of students in emergency situations. Coordinates and implements emergency evacuation drills for students in Residential Life. Discusses daily schedules as well as weekly and monthly upcoming events. Seeks input from staff on a regular basis. Monitors training activities for students and providing feedback regarding techniques, quality, etc.
  • Administrative: Responds to communications within the dormitories and other departments in school. Supervises and coordinates appropriate laundry duties and procedures. Checks all student and staff logbooks and reports. During shift change: discuss with them any problems on previous shift and any disciplinary actions which might have occurred. Ensures activities are in place for the day. Completes nightly dorm report. Assist with special duties or projects as assigned by supervisor.
