About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Student Life, the Student Life and Services Specialist is responsible for assisting in creating a dynamic, robust campus life experience for all students. Under the supervisor of the Director of Student Life and Services, the Student Life and Services Specialist will oversee Fraternity and Sorority Life, Campus Activities Board, Graduate Student Government Association and the Student Budget Request Committee providing oversight, training and mentoring students, and providing support designed to enhance the growth, learning, and success of all students. The Student Life and Services Specialist also work closely with faculty and staff advisors of fraternity and sororities, serving as a guide and resource. The Student Life and Services Specialist assess student engagement trends and collaborates with the Director of Student Life, university departments and community organizations to develop an engagement plan that is responsive to the interests, needs, and concerns of students and is aligned with the mission, goals and policies of the University and the Office of Student Life and Services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in college student personnel, psychology, social work, education or related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years professional experience in leadership development, student activities, student organizational support and program planning within student affairs in a post-secondary institution.
• Minimum of two (2) years professional experience working directly with Fraternity and Sorority Life.
• Direct experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of how these identities impact their transition into university life and a track record of creative, responsive and effective programming for a diverse, non-traditional student population.

• Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, data science, communications, social work, or related field preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist in leading and implementing opportunities for student involvement, service, and learning that foster student community and a sense of belonging, learning and leadership development.
• Develop co-curricular activities, programs and services, aligned with educational priority, that increase student involvement and function effectively to meet their educational mission consistent with University policies.
• Advise fraternities and sororities, campus activity board, graduate student government association and student budget request committee.
• Provide support and training to students and faculty/staff advisors to foster effective organizational management, increase membership, activity and visibility on campus and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
• Assist in coordinating and planning major events such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, Spring Fling and Leadership Retreat, to foster student involvement and development campus life.
• Assess student needs, review university and national data sets and evaluate outcomes of current programs and services.
• Develop new educational, social, cultural, recreational programs, resources and out-of-classroom learning experiences to address gaps and to create pathways for involvement that promote the development of specified competencies.
• Chair the Student Budget Request Committee and ensure appropriate student budgeting and timely disbursement of funds.
• Maintain accurate records and write reports.
• Maintain regular, positive interaction with students, follow-up with student concerns and refer students to university and community resources.
• Liaise with faculty and campus leadership to develop partnerships that support co-curricular linkages, increase faculty involvement, strengthen programs and coordinate campus-wide events.
• Assist in developing policies, procedures, handbooks and resource materials to guide all aspects in Student Life and ensure that students are aware of and following the guidance.
