About The Position

The St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel & Newman Center serving the students of Texas A&M University-Kingsville is hiring two Student Interns. This position will assist the Chaplain and Campus Minister to carry out all their tasks to guide the STANCC community towards divine worship and the salvation of souls. Working alongside a Chaplain, Campus Minster, Student Interns, Student Leaders, and FOCUS Missionaries, the Student Intern is important in carrying for the facilities, gathering the community, and leading a life worthy of imitation as a practical Catholic. Ministerial Character: The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church. As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church Continuously grows in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed

Requirements

  • A Love for God’s people and a willingness to serve them from an administrative standpoint
  • Maintain a professional attitude and behavior with an ability to set appropriate boundaries with students and teammates under the guidelines listed in the Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment document regarding ethics and integrity in ministry in the Diocese of Corpus Christi
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Honest and trustworthy
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to work on a variety of tasks in a short amount of time
  • Design and artistic ability both virtual and tangible
  • Competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher/Google Docs/Sheets/Slides, and Canva
  • Can quickly learn a variety of small skills such as working the sound system, setting up for Mass, etc.
  • Competency in data entry
  • Enjoys working closely with other people
  • Able to discern personal daily tasks
  • Able to cook a variety of meals
  • Must submit to required pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle check record check (MVR), and drug screening
  • Complete certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
  • Requires adherence to all diocesan policies and procedures
  • Know the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and live by them with an openness to learn more about the Faith
  • Food Handler’s License

Responsibilities

  • Assist Campus Minister in carrying out his/her tasks including but not limited to:
  • Idea generation of campus ministry gatherings
  • Creating a calendar of activities for campus ministry
  • Carrying out planned gatherings, including but not limited to: Sunday Masses, confession/adoration, Thursday student lunches, 5th quarter dances, retreats
  • Organizing files
  • Designing and updating the website
  • Communication to recruit and lead volunteers, teammates, students, etc.
  • Offer creative guidance to the Campus Minister, Chaplain, fellow interns, etc.
  • Communication with vendors
