About The Position

NASSCO’s summer engineering internship program provides candidates with the opportunity to work within an identified department based on school curriculum and prior experience. Candidates will be initially assigned to an engineering group based on need, skills, and interests but may rotate to other engineering departments as needed. Candidates should expect to spend time in both an office and manufacturing environment. Interns report on-site in San Diego, CA.

Requirements

  • Successful candidates must be currently enrolled (full-time)
  • Must have ability to express ideas in oral and written formats and demonstrate a high degree of personal flexibility.

Nice To Haves

  • An interest and/or prior work experience in ship design, shipbuilding, construction management and manufacturing processes would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in personal computer (PC) word processing, spreadsheets and graphics, as well as computer-aided design and engineering (CAD/CAE) systems, is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting naval architects and marine engineering with their current projects.
  • Creating and modifying CAD drawings
  • Performing research using both online and printed resources
  • Using a variety of software to perform stability and structural calculations.
  • Accompany senior naval architects to support shipboard inspections and testing.
  • Reports to department manager/supervisor on a regular basis to monitor status of assigned projects.
