About The Position

We are seeking a Communications Intern to join the Foundation in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation. The Foundation for California Community Colleges is on a mission to double its impact in the next 10 years. We are a group of relentless optimists and innovators in education, working collaboratively with public and private partners to help improve the student experience and expand pathways to economic and social mobility in communities across California. The Communications Intern is a part-time, paid position that will play a vital role in amplifying our organization's impact by assisting the Communication and Marketing Services Team in crafting compelling narratives, engaging with our social media audience, and collaborating to ensure consistent brand representation. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of communications, marketing, and design within a fast-paced non-profit environment. Duration: 10-week summer internship program from June 1 - August 7, 2026. Exact start and end dates are flexible based on academic schedules. Compensation: This is a paid internship at $20/hour, 10-15 hours per week

Requirements

  • Presently enrolled in a California community college, pursuing an associate's degree or certificate in Communications, Marketing, or a related field of Journalism.
  • Strong writing and copyediting skills
  • Experience working with graphic design and photography
  • Social media communication experience
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deliverables
  • Excellent computer skills in standard office applications, specifically in MS Word, PowerPoint, and web browsers
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take projects from inception to completion and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing a communications plan for upcoming campaigns.
  • Support the Communications team in creating engaging and informative content for various platforms, including social media, event invitations, reports, newsletters, and more.
  • Assist with facilitating our organization's social media calendar, including scheduling posts and engaging with our social media audience. Help create content for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.
  • Provide support in drafting, editing, and distributing press releases under the guidance of the Communications team.
  • Assist with the layout of internal and external communications utilizing our email marketing service provider.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, best practices, and current events to help inform decision-making.
  • Assist in planning and executing special events by providing support with tasks such as invitation design, and/or vendor communications.
  • Provide administrative support and assist with special projects as assigned by the Communications team.
