About The Position

The Department of Public Services (DPS) is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Student Intern to support administrative, operational, and programmatic functions within the Administration Division. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to local government operations and offers a structured rotational experience across multiple administrative units. The intern will contribute to ongoing projects, assist with daily operations, and gain a comprehensive understanding of how the department delivers essential public services to county residents.

Requirements

  • Ability to analyze information, summarize findings, and present results clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with staff, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Capacity to adapt to different work environments and learn new systems and procedures.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and adherence to county policies and procedures.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university program, preferably in Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science, Urban Studies, Communications, Human Resources, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with contract file organization, tracking deliverables, and preparing documentation.
  • Support research related to vendor performance, compliance requirements, and procurement processes.
  • Assist with recruitment‑related tasks, onboarding materials, training coordination, and personnel file maintenance.
  • Observe HR processes related to employee engagement, workforce development, and policy administration.
  • Support data collection and documentation related to facility maintenance, work orders, and space utilization.
  • Assist with scheduling, inventory tracking, and coordination of facility‑related service requests.
  • Participate in short‑term initiatives that support departmental priorities, such as process improvement, data analysis, or program evaluation.
  • Assist with research, report preparation, and project documentation.
  • Assist with drafting internal and external communications, including newsletters, announcements, and informational materials.
  • Support content development for public outreach, digital platforms, and community engagement efforts.
  • Provide general office support including filing, data entry, document preparation, and customer service.
  • Assist with reception duties, mail distribution, and maintenance of administrative records.
  • Perform administrative and clerical tasks to support daily operations across assigned units.
  • Conduct research, compile data, and prepare summaries or reports to support departmental initiatives.
  • Assist with project coordination, tracking progress, and preparing related documentation.
  • Support customer service functions by responding to inquiries and routing information appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate records, spreadsheets, and databases used by the division.
  • Attend meetings, prepare notes, and assist with follow‑up actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the department.
