About The Position

The Telecom & Fiber Services Student Helper provides administrative and operational support to Grant PUD’s telecommunications team, with a focus on inventory management, warehouse organization, and process support. This position assists in maintaining accurate records of fiber materials, equipment, and stock levels while supporting standardization of inventory and storage practices. The Student Helper works closely with telecom staff to ensure materials, tools, and documentation are organized, accessible, and aligned with established procedures. This role offers hands-on experience with utility operations, inventory systems, and process improvement in support of reliable fiber and broadband services for the community.

Requirements

  • Be admitted to college or university
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher throughout the internship and provide verification upon request
  • Maintain full-time student status for the duration of the internship and provide verification upon request

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of telecommunications or fiber optic systems through coursework and/or hands on experience with network infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inventory management of fiber optic materials, equipment, and supplies, including tracking, labeling, and stock organization.
  • Maintain and organize telecom warehouse and storage areas to ensure efficiency, cleanliness, and adherence to stock standards.
  • Receive, inspect, and log incoming materials; verify quantities and report discrepancies.
  • Support the development and maintenance of inventory standards, procedures, and documentation.
  • Update and maintain accurate records in inventory and asset management systems.
  • Assist with issuing and tracking materials for projects, service orders, and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct routine inventory counts and audits to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Organize and standardize storage locations, labeling systems, and material categorization.
  • Support process improvement efforts related to inventory control, warehouse organization, and workflow efficiency.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, spreadsheets, and documentation related to inventory and materials management.
  • Coordinate with telecom staff to ensure materials and equipment are available to support field and operational needs.
  • Assist with moving and stocking materials, including lifting and transporting items as needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures and organizational policies related to warehouse operations and material handling.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.
  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies, & procedures.
