About The Position

The Student Employee Blood Bank will provide support to Blood Bank operations by assisting with specimen handling, inventory management, and customer service in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements

• HS Diploma/GED
• Must be a current student in a Medical Laboratory Science program

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components
• Issue blood and blood components to the floors
• Understand the importance of massive trauma and to issue blood and blood components as set forth in the Massive Transfusion Protocol
• Communicate effectively with the Blood Bank customers including physicians, nurses, and other UAMS staff members
• Receive samples and to ensure all samples are appropriately labeled and collected properly for the Blood Bank
• Perform other duties as needed.
