About The Position

The Office of Student Life Student Conduct seeks applications from newer professionals for the role of Student Conduct Officer 2 (”Student Conduct Officer”). Student Conduct’s mission is to protect student rights; help foster a safe and secure educational environment; uphold the university’s shared values; establish accountability for student choices; maintain a fair process that promotes mutual respect; foster ethical standards and critical thinking and decision-making; and assist in the development of students to be leaders and engaged citizens. Rooted in the Office of Student Life’s culture commitments of appreciation, connection, support and care, the Student Conduct department promotes the development of a growth mindset both for themselves as professionals and for the students they engage with both informally and within the conduct process. The Student Conduct Officer responds to reports alleging violations of the Code of Student Conduct. This response includes educational conversations, facilitating informal resolutions, and conducting formal investigations pursuant to procedures found in the Code of Student Conduct. The Student Conduct Officer will also contribute to the department’s ongoing effort to revise and create learning and engagement content for students and training and education materials for campus and community partners. The Student Conduct Officer is supervised by the Associate Director and receives mentorship from the Director and Assistant Directors. It is an ideal position for individuals completing a master’s degree in student affairs or higher education or who are contemplating a career in higher education after working in a relevant field for 2-4 years. The Student Conduct Officer position is a non-exempt position, intended as an entry-level position in the Student Conduct profession at a large, highly complex institution. The Student Conduct Officer will gain significant experience responding to a variety of behavioral concerns in collaboration with an experienced Student Conduct team.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in investigations, dispute resolution, mediation or similar areas (student work experience may be included depending on scope and responsibility)
  • working proficiency in standard office computer software applications, including Microsoft Office suite

Nice To Haves

  • Education: Master’s or professional degree in a relevant field, such as Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling
  • 2-4 years relevant work experience
  • commitment to developing excellent communication skills through team collaboration and editing
  • experience working in PeopleSoft Student Information System, Maxient, and Workday
  • knowledge of Title IX, the Clery Act, anti-hazing laws, such as Collin’s Law: Ohio’s Anti-Hazing Law
  • previous experience in Residence Life (e.g., RA, Hall Director) or Student Activities (e.g., Club Sports, Sorority & Fraternity Life)
