About The Position

Building monitors act as a security presence, control access to the buildings, deter crime, and reduce risks on campus. Additionally, building monitors look for suspicious activity and notify WUPD as appropriate. Building monitors communicate with university community members in order to increase safety on campus and to request that community members comply with applicable rules, regulations, and laws. Building monitors do not physically intervene and will request assistance from WUPD when necessary. Requirements

  • Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Reliable
  • Able to handle a variety of difficult and sometimes emergent situations
  • Must be familiar with security practices
  • Ability to make sound, independent decisions
  • Effective communication skills
  • Must be familiar with the facility
  • Display a high level of initiative and maturity
  • Must have excellent customer service and problem solving skills.
  • Confident working with various forms of technology
  • Confident working with a diverse client base and working autonomously.
  • Trustworthy
  • Able to handle confidential and sensitive issues appropriately

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to those who have prior experience in security or similar fields
  • Have CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Are familiar with police radio operations
  • Have a valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Observe and Report
  • Notify WUPD
  • Notify building staff on Duty
  • Write reports
  • Incidents are documented in a detailed Incident Report
  • Secure Any Unsecured and Unattended Spaces
  • Identify and Report Maintenance Problems
  • Enforce Policies
  • Act as Ambassadors of the University
  • Be Friendly and Service-Oriented
  • Other Duties as Assigned
