About The Position

Serve as a learning specialist for a caseload of student-athletes, providing individual and comprehensive academic support strategies. To support the academic endeavors of all student-athletes by implementing educational measures targeting specifically those student-athletes deemed most at-risk. Duties will include, but are not limited to assisting in implementing a systematic, but individualized approach to student athlete development; meeting regularly (weekly, bi-weekly or tri-weekly) with at-risk student-athletes to monitor their academic progress and employment of educational strategies; collaborating with Student-Athlete Academic Services staff members to ensure transparency and develop a holistic approach for student-athlete academic development; presenting educational workshops for student-athletes; assisting student-athletes in receiving educational accommodations as awarded through the Office of Accessibility; assisting student-athletes in developing short and long term goals, improve coping skills and develop intrinsic motivation. Maintain detailed records and paperwork associated with the educational support plans for at-risk student-athletes. Complete detailed session reports for individual meetings with student-athletes on caseload. Performs educational screening. Attend educational testing feedback sessions, develop and implement educational plans based on test recommendations. Assist the Director Educational Services in the development of protocol and standards related to educational testing and student-athlete use of the Office of Accessibility Services. Assist with general operations and supervision of the Educational Services area. Responsible for keeping the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services, appropriate Athletics Department staff, and the Dean of Undergraduate Studies informed about current and future needs to adequately provide comprehensive academic advising support programs for student-athletes. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Special Education or Education related field or area and 1 year experience working with post-secondary students preferred OR 5 years of experience working with a variety of student-athletes.
  • Experience in working with student-athletes by monitoring their academic progress and employment of educational strategies.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Experience in presenting educational workshops for student-athletes.
  • Experience tutoring, mentoring, or teaching students.
  • Experience working independently and prioritizing work under deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret and explain policies to students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Attention to detail and the highest standard of integrity are imperative.
  • Must have the unique ability to deal with people calmly, confidently and with complete objectivity.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
