About The Position

The Office of Graduate Studies is hiring a student assistant to provide general support to the Office of Graduate Studies Admission Evaluators team. Under the supervision of the Admission Evaluators and the Office Department Coordinator, the student assistant duties include but are not limited to: Assist students with navigating graduate student resources and the graduate program applications; Provide applicants with general information regarding graduate program admission requirements, application status, required documents and other admission-related support; Assist Admission Evaluators on various projects; General office duties such as answering phones and emails, and providing general front desk customer service; Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work
  • Follow oral instructions
  • Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students
  • Communicate effectively with all levels
  • Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal)
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate-level program at CSUF and in good standing
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills (writing sample will be collected during interview)
  • Highly responsible, dependable, well-mannered, professional and responsive to the needs of students, staff, faculty and administrators
  • Ability to interact and communicate professionally with students, staff, and faculty
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with ongoing interruptions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to use independent judgment, critical thinking skills and analytical skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior customer service experience
  • Students enrolled in the counseling, psychology, or social work graduate programs, or students with a bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Students with no other CSUF positions (CSUF student employees are limited to no more than 20 hours/week for all positions combined)
  • First-year graduate student
