The Student Assistant will support the History Department as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2026. Drs. Drew Swanson (Georgia Southern University) and Debra Reid (The Henry Ford) seek a student research assistant for a book project entitled Encounters: The History of Rural American in 50 Objects, under contract to Routledge Press. Using fifty objects common to the rural historical experience, this book will help readers visualize the fabric of past rural American life. In consultation with the authors, the student assistant will be responsible for researching images for use in the book, determining their copyright status, and arranging for publication permissions. Training in this work will be provided as part of the position. This work will provide the assistant with valuable experience in historical team research, digital art and permissions, and academic publishing. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
