About The Position

The Occupational Safety FWS Student Assistant supports the university’s occupational compliance, construction and maintenance programs. The FWS Student Assistant-Occupational safety reports to the Safety and Compliance Manager who falls under Environmental Health and Safety. Responsibilities include assisting with administrative tasks, data management, analytical tasks, field/tactical tasks, area and spaces identification. The role helps in risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, strengthening our safety culture, and supports occupational safety initiatives.

Requirements

• Current USF student with a Spring 2026 FWS (Federal Work Study) Award pursuing a degree in occupational safety or Public Health, or a related field.
• You must upload a copy of your Spring 2026 FWS Award to be considered for this position.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with office productivity tools including spreadsheets, word processing, and basic database systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable and able to work effectively within construction zones and mechanical spaces
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the full Microsoft Office Suite
• Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and analytical methods

Responsibilities

• Occupational Safety and Compliance Support Assist with occupational programs and sustainability initiatives.
• Support documentation and tracking of compliance activities.
• Help conduct construction work area inspections and compliance checks.
• Data & Operational Support Collect, organize, and analyze safety and compliance data.
• Prepare reports, learning/training aids, spreadsheets, and summaries using Excel and other tools.
• Assist with general office tasks such as filing, scanning, and record organization.
• System & Policy Administration Provide support for EHS management systems.
• Assist with policy development and maintenance of safety procedures.
• Other Duties Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives.
