About The Position

College of Engineering student who provides individualized, one-on-one tutoring to undergraduate engineering students. The tutor offers academic support in core engineering subjects by helping students strengthen their understanding of course material, develop effective study strategies, and build academic confidence. This role directly supports the College of Engineering’s mission to promote student success, retention, and engagement. Work Schedule Average Hours: 10–20 hours per week, based on student availability Terms: Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters Office Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Flexible scheduling around academic commitments

Requirements

  • Must have an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award for the current academic year
  • Applicants must provide proof of their FWS award by submitting a screenshot of their Award Overview from Student Self-Service .
  • Current USF undergraduate student in the College of Engineering.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a grade of B or higher in the courses tutored.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated patience and the ability to explain material clearly to peers.
  • Professional demeanor and commitment to supporting student academic success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tutoring in assigned engineering courses (e.g., Calculus, Physics, Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Programming, etc.).
  • Assist students in understanding complex concepts, solving problems, and preparing for exams.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student attendance, and feedback using ESSC tracking systems.
  • Promote active learning by encouraging problem-solving strategies and critical thinking.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and training.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment aligned with university values.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and academic integrity standards in all interactions with students.
