About The Position

This position is located in Wayne County, Wooster, OH. Responsibilities will be moderate and less routine and will require responsibility and good judgement. May coordinate activities for other student employees. Requires providing excellent customer service, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a professional environment. Requires previous experience and knowledge or skill in student assistant role. Represent the department and the university with the highest degree of integrity applying OSU mission and shared values. Extension Office Intern for Ohio State University Extension, Wayne County Integrated Pest Management Program, Student Field Scout. This position requires knowledge of basic integrated pest management (IPM) principles and scouting procedures and a willingness to learn crop-scouting skills. The position requires some knowledge of and the ability to recognize (and willingness to learn) common weed, insect and disease pests of agronomic field crops, vegetable crops and fruit crops. Job duties require weekly scouting and monitoring of grower clientele fields and/or orchards. IPM scouts are expected to write a summary report of their weekly scouting visit for the grower. Scouts will collect appropriate samples to help diagnose pest conditions. IPM scouts will also help to provide control and treatment measure options for grower clientele according to research based information, Extension publications and accepted best management practices. IPM scouts must be able to work in an outdoor environment and be physically capable of being on their feet walking grower clientele fields/orchards throughout most of the day. IPM scouts must provide their own vehicle to get to grower clientele locations and will be reimbursed for mileage. Other desirable skill sets include: the ability to organize and plan without direct supervision, self-starter, basic computer skills, attention to detail and a willingness to learn and good people skills. The employee will work 38 hours per week, unless enrolled in college classes during this period, in which they can work up to 28 hours per week. Position term is May 11, 2026 to August 28, 2026 Negotiable based on school calendar and growing season.

Requirements
