About The Position

The Director of Student Activities is responsible, through the principal, for the development, coordination and supervision of all school co-curricular activities in the school with the exception of athletics. This position reports directly to the Principal. This role also requires close collaboration with teachers, student groups and the community to achieve program goals along with the additional following responsibilities: Providing dedicated academic, social, and emotional support to identified 9th-grade students needing extra assistance. Serving as the Senior Class Sponsor. The student activities director will be asked to work beyond the school day and, possibly, year. Ordinarily, this work beyond the school is spent immediately after the school day ends. By itself, Student Activities Director is a .5 assignment and other duties or classes will be required. The ideal candidate would also be willing and able to serve as Senior Class Sponsor (.2) and Freshman Transitions teacher (.3).

Requirements

  • A minimum of a master's degree with secondary certification and course work or experience in student activities, administration, counseling or related areas.

  • A minimum of three years' teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all co-curricular (non-athletic) activities sponsored by the high school.
  • Work closely with faculty committees, administrative team and class and activity sponsors to discuss and recommend solutions for problems pertaining to co-curricular activities.
  • Meet regularly with class council sponsors for planning and evaluating programs and activities.
  • Schedule and supervise the chaperone obligations of staff members, including submitting Schedule B contracts to the principal's secretary.
  • Serve as coordinator of school assemblies.
  • Oversee and promote all fundraisers for various co-curricular groups within the building. Assist the principal with the development of annual activity budgets and the handling of monies by individual clubs and class councils.
  • Develop the annual school activity calendar for approval by the principal. Coordinate dates with program directors and co-curricular groups for the school activity calendar throughout the school year.
  • Stimulate the development of new co-curricular activities to meet the ever-changing needs and interests of high school students.
  • Collect Club Constitutions and assist the Student Congress and the Principal in the selection of new clubs.
  • Assist in selecting sponsors for each co-curricular club and/or class sponsors for co-curricular activities.
  • Use the co-curricular activity program to promote better school and community relations.
  • Work with building administrators and class council sponsors to develop a satisfying program of class council activities.
  • Represent the principal and the school at meetings of community-wide significance such as PTSA and KLAA/LVC.
  • Attend all KLAA/LVC activities and all meetings and events relating to Student Congress.
  • Review and update the Activities portion of the student handbook yearly.
  • Coordinate Student Congress volunteers for building and district related events and programs (i.e. Freshman Orientation, Open House, Honors Night, Preview Night, Commencement and Conferences, etc.).
  • Oversee/Assist with programs such as Patriots Relate, Preview Night, Honors Night, Commencement, etc.
  • Oversee all publicity material for use within the building (including announcements).
  • Coordinate the Activity Letter recognition process which includes collection and recording of credits from the co-curricular sponsors.
  • Coordination of various community service projects with the Student Congress.
  • Prepare lessons to support identified 9th grade students who need Tier 3 academic, emotional and social support.
