About The Position

Basic Job Functions Plan, lay-out and perform all types of structural steel erection, welding, and fabrication work in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Perform structural welding processes required for installation of steel members, connections, and assemblies. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision. Must have the ability to take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman. Provide feedback to ensure all materials, tools, equipment, and information is available for the work. Look for opportunities for improvement in all tasks, means and methods regarding the work and be willing to learn from others. Continually seek opportunities to share knowledge and teach others. High proficiency in all related trade mathematics. Inspect subordinates’ work, ensure accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications, explain deficiencies and take any necessary corrective action. Eliminate waste such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage, and time. Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds. Perform structural welding using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, or other approved welding processes as required by project specifications. Read and interpret welding symbols, shop drawings, erection drawings, and welding procedure specifications. Prepare base metals by cleaning, cutting, fitting, beveling, and aligning materials for welding. Inspect welds visually and with appropriate measuring tools to ensure compliance with project and quality standards. Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and related tools safely and effectively. Maintain welding certifications as required by applicable codes and project specifications. Minimum Job Requirements Must have a minimum of three years (level I), four years (level II), five years (level III), and six plus years (level Sr.) experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry and have an in-depth understanding of the ironworker and structural welding trade. Must possess current structural welding certification(s) as required by applicable code or project specifications. Must be able to read and understand drawings, specifications, safety and quality standards and effectively utilize all trade tools and equipment relevant to the work. Possess effective verbal and written communication skills. Note: Job Description is subject to change at any time and may include other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions. Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. Lift, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis. Comply with all safety standards and procedures. Reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis. Stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment including but not limited to steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, and vest. Move in and around confined, cluttered and uneven areas. May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors. Requirements
