About The Position

Everett Ship Repair is the Pacific Northwest's Premier Ship Repair Facility. Founded in 2019, Everett Ship Repair "ESR" offers vast ship repair capabilities from its facility in Everett, Washington, for any type of commercial vessels, with focus on commercial workboats and passenger vessels. Together with Nichols Brothers Boat Builders, we are a formidable player in the maritime community of the Pacific Northwest. ESR has built a reputation for high quality ship repair and conversion services since its founding. With the recent addition of Hercules, Puget Sound's largest drydock to its fleet, ESR has expanded its capacity to serve commercial and government vessels across the West Coast. This expansion aligns with ESR's long term strategy to invest in people, infrastructure, and capabilities that sustain the Pacific Northwest's vital maritime industry. We are now seeking a Welding Supervisor, who will oversee our team of skilled journeymen and apprentice welders in performing for structural welding required for our repair and service of a variety of marine vessels and motivate team members to accomplish the work safely, correctly, and efficiently. Weld processes overseen will include wire feed and stick welding operations on steel and aluminum projects involving repair service for vessels as well as facility related projects under his/her supervision. Reporting to the Production Manager, the incumbent will execute the project strategy for the welding scope of work and supervise skilled trades to complete the service project in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years' experience in Marine Construction Supervision, and tradesman experience at the journeyman level in a Marine Construction Field
  • Previous journey -experience as a Welder or trade in which metal fabrication and welding skills are required and heavily utilized.
  • BA/BS plus 2 years in a related field or AA/AS plus 4 years directly related experience
  • 2-G, 3-G, 4-G ABS Steel Required Aluminum a plus or Coast Guard Certifications, or ability to obtain certifications within 90 days of employment -
  • Knowledge of shipyard safety practices and vessel terminology
  • Proficient computer skills in Outlook, Excel, and Project
  • Learning orientation as demonstrated by record of growing personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, or the like
  • Knowledgeability on modern ship repair and service including the creation and use of project strategies, master schedules, product work breakdown structures, material requirement planning, product modeling, work order creation, resource loading and scheduling.
  • Skill in directing and coordinating the work of others; act as a leader and be recognized as such by others; coach and motivate the work of others; and resolve conflicts.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with and ability to read and interpret schedules in MS Project.
  • Knowledge of shipboard systems, and marine equipment.
  • Works to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, or the like.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision to assigned employees, including assignment to tasks, assuring completion of tasks within deadlines, resolving conflicts, and motivating optimal performance from department trades and support staff.
  • Lead and communicate company safety culture and policies. Leads craft safety meetings. Holds employees accountable for demonstrating acceptable safety practices. Provides input to ways to instill attention to safety among all employees.
  • Work closely with the project managers or ship superintendent for elements in the projects in the supervisor's craft area; handles planning including specifying staffing needs and scheduling, tools, materials, equipment, and subcontracts.
  • Plan and project manpower requirements to support production/ project management activities.
  • Coordinate regulatory agency compliance for assigned craft. Assure employees accomplish work in accordance with proper practices and within specifications.
  • Oversee development of daily work assignments and expectations for production workforce.
  • Ensure all employees have all the necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, drawings, and procedures to properly accomplish their jobs.
  • Conduct toolbox meetings.
  • Ensure through personal inspection and power of example that correct construction procedures are followed, and work is following the plans and specifications. Points out deficiencies, explains and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Review crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding and instills processes to assure for timely and accurate submission of work hours at daily and weekly deadlines.
  • Demonstrate and model behavior supportive of the direction the company is headed; provides meaningful and constructive suggestions for practice improvements; acts as and is a recognized leader among peers.
  • Assist estimating department as required for bidding work.
  • Attend daily production meetings and coordinates assignments with other shops
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with fellow crew members and supervision
  • Share your knowledge in the trade with other employees, especially those in apprentice roles

  • Work with internal QA to assure regulatory agency compliance for assigned craft. Perform or oversee initial quality assurance check for assigned projects
  • Oversee operation of a variety of welding equipment and processes including arc welding, sub-arc, MIG welding, and Air Arc operations, flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead.
  • Share your knowledge in the trade with other employees, especially those in learning or apprentice roles.
