Learn more at www.jostchemical.com. ---------------------------------------- POSITION OVERVIEW The Structural Welder works under the general supervision of the Welding Supervisor in a GMP‑regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards. This role performs industrial welding and fabrication duties involving the layout, fitting, and assembly of metal components such as machinery frames, structural supports, and pressure‑related equipment. This position requires the ability to analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan welding operations when formal procedures are unavailable.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to pass a 4G Structural Weld Test (Flux Core / GMAW) within 30 days of hire
  • Basic mathematics and English comprehension
  • Advanced knowledge of welding components including mechanical design, production, and processing
  • Understanding of basic safety, health, and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Welding equipment and tools including: Torches and plasma torches Grinders (4‑inch and 6‑inch), chippers, saws, drills Sledgehammers, wrenches, hammers, and general hand tools
  • Electric and pneumatic tools
  • Measuring tools such as tape measures and layout equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Equipment selection, setup, and maintenance
  • Quality control inspection and analysis
  • Strong organizational skills and self‑motivation
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and service manuals
  • Perform skilled work with strong manual dexterity
  • Learn and assist with rigging of: Process tanks and chemical processing equipment Motors, gearboxes, agitators, shafts, columns, and structural beams
  • Learn rigging techniques using straps, hooks, chain falls, tie‑downs, and lever hoists
  • Work from engineering prints, 3D models, hand sketches, and verbal instructions
  • Read a tape measure accurately to 1/16" and apply strong math skills
  • Lift and carry objects up to 55 pounds
  • Climb ladders and scaffolds; stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch as required
  • Work in extreme temperatures, including environments up to 120°F
  • Safely operate forklifts and material‑handling equipment
  • Follow established procedures and work within precise specifications
  • Work both independently and as part of a team
  • Operate and maintain a wide variety of welding and fabrication tools

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) or more years of skilled or journeyman‑level structural welding experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Layout large structural components using chalk lines, string lines, lasers, and transits
  • Prepare welds including: Beveling structural tubing Installing back plates for CJP weld preparation Fitting square structural tubing Installing structural columns and fabricating small structural stands
  • Weld various sizes and shapes of materials in accordance with standard welding codes Primary welding process: FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)
  • Perform full‑penetration welds in: 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G (overhead position) Stainless steel weld tests on 3/8" plate
  • Fabricate and fit steel components within large structures using cranes, chain falls, and level hoists
  • Layout, position, and tack weld assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Follow all company safety rules, regulations, and GMP requirements
