The VIRGINIA Aft End Integration, Propulsion Plant and Shielding department (D412) is seeking an independent, communicative candidate to work at the Huntington Ingalls Industries, Newport News Shipbuilding facility. This role involves providing technical deck plate oversight for aft end structures, arrangements, and shielding construction activities for VIRGINIA Class Submarine propulsion plants, with a focus on nuclear work related to the Primary Shield Tank, Reactor Compartment deck, and attached components, as well as non-nuclear work. The engineer will primarily work in an office environment but will regularly operate within the production environment. The successful candidate will serve as the lead structural engineer for all VIRGINIA Class nuclear work at the Newport News Shipyard, responsible for facilitating production quality and rate by interacting with designers, shipyard workers, other engineering departments, and the U.S. Navy.
