About The Position

1. Journeyman Ironworker shall have the knowledge and expertise to ensure that all craft are trained to follow all project policies and procedures. 2. Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members. On most projects the crane and rigging department sets the cranes for steel erection. 3. The use of tag lines will be required on all members that are hoisted. 4. Have knowledge of how members are fastened. 5. Be able and understand the principal fundamentals of installing steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device. 6. Have the knowledge and expertise to install members into final position, using turnbuckles, sleaver bars, porta powers, and hand tools. 7. Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by using drift pins, bull pins, spud wrenches and sleaver bars. 8. Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members, using Bazooka bobs, lasers, and levels. 9. Have knowledge and ability to bolt members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place. 10. Have the ability and knowledge to modify steel members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment or grinders with metal cutting discs. 11. Have adequate knowledge of proper procedures associated with loading, transporting, or unloading materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. 12. Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and structural members during installation. 13. Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment. 14. Typically requires a minimum of 48 months industrial construction experience.
