Structural Fitter - Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) Location: South Milwaukee, WI Shifts: 2nd or 3rd Shift Bonus: $2,000 Sign-On & Retention Bonus Pay Progression: Step 1: $33.97/hr Step 2: $35.22/hr Step 3: $36.49/hr Shift Premium: +$1.00/hr for 2nd or 3rd shift About Caterpillar South Milwaukee Caterpillar is hiring experienced Structural Fitters with Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) expertise to join our manufacturing team in South Milwaukee, WI. At our South Milwaukee facility, you'll be part of a team that builds some of the largest and most powerful mining machines in the world. This facility specializes in the production of Cat Electric Rope Shovels (ERS) used in mining operations around the world.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of FCAW welding experience on heavy plate
  • 3+ years of structural fitting experience
  • 3+ years of blueprint reading and interpretation
  • Familiarity with back gouging, carbon arcing, or air arcing
  • Must pass: 3 FCAW weld qualification tests
  • Must pass: 2 structural fitter qualification tests

Nice To Haves

  • Strong safety mindset
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Proficiency with layout tools: tape measure, level, surface gauges, tram points, calipers, combination sets, wedges, blocks
  • Willingness to work overtime to meet production demands

Responsibilities

  • Weld plain and alloy structural steel in all positions using FCAW
  • Perform multi-pass welds (10+) on heavy plate (2+ inches)
  • Use jib, gantry, or overhead cranes to position components
  • Grind and dress fabricated weldments
  • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and aerial lifts
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints
  • Fit and assemble large structural weldments using jacks, clamps, jigs, and layout tools
  • Clamp, tack weld, burn, air arc, and label components per blueprint specifications
