About The Position

AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Coral Gables on January 15-16, 2026. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026. The event kicks off on Thursday evening with a networking mixer where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines. On Friday, interviews will take place at our Coral Gables office . This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities. AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineering Intern for our transportation department in Tampa, Florida . As an intern in the transportation department, you will assist in the structural bridge design. Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. This position in expected to begin between December 2025 to May 2026.

Requirements

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or higher degree with an emphasis in Structural Engineering and with the intent to continue enrollment after the internship and must have completed least 3 years of study.
• Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and plan to continue with the Master’s Degree are eligible to apply for these positions.
• Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
• Due to the nature of the work, U.S Citizenship is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

• Completed courses related to statics, strength of materials, introductory steel design, and introductory reinforced concrete design.
• Ability to follow procedures and pay attention to detail.
• Good written and oral communications skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in developing calculations using software like Excel or Mathcad.
• Interest in bridge design is desired.

Responsibilities

• Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.
• Prepare engineering related calculations.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Review shop drawings.
• Assist in the inspection of bridges, culverts, and tunnels.
• Prepare details for construction drawings using CAD software.
• Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
