About The Position

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Structural Engineer II in our Water Group. This individual is expected to work with Baxter & Woodmans Water Group on project teams in Illinois, Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin. We are seeking qualified applicants for our Crystal Lake or Chicago, Illinois offices.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved program with a strong academic background in material behavior, structural analysis, concrete, masonry, steel, aluminum, and wood design.
  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience including structural analysis and design of environmental structures.
  • Understanding of building materials, systems, specifications, codes, standards, details, and construction techniques preferred.
  • Proficient in use of AutoCAD, Revit, RISA, Enercalc, and Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Strong verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a team environment while working on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel (own transportation).
  • Structural Engineer license in Illinois.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of building materials, systems, specifications, codes, standards, details, and construction techniques preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for specific technical design solutions to meet the clients needs.
  • Assist in leading planning, design, and coordination of small to large projects.
  • Assist in leading conceptual design and provide full team support throughout the entire project.
  • Perform detailed structural analysis and design for buildings, water and wastewater treatment plant tanks, pumping stations, hydraulic structures, and retaining walls in accordance with pertinent codes and standards.
  • Preparation of design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for construction of new structures and retrofitting of existing structures.
  • Field inspection and confined space entry for structural condition assessment and preparation of technical reports.
  • Perform construction administration duties including conducting on-site observations, preparation of observation reports, responding to RFIs, and review of submittals.
