About The Position

The Structural Design Engineer I / II supports the delivery of structural engineering design services for utility-scale renewable energy and substation projects. This role performs structural design and analysis tasks using standard engineering methods and company procedures, with the level of supervision and independence based on experience. This position is intended for early-career engineers (Engineer I) or developing mid-level engineers (Engineer II) building technical expertise in renewable energy structural design while contributing to projects that support the energy transition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil, Structural, Architectural or closely related Engineering field.
  • Ability to read and understand site studies and geotechnical reports.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve routine engineering problems with guidance.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Foundational proficiency with AutoCAD required for preparation and modification of engineering drawings.
  • Entry-level to early-career experience (academic, internship, or professional).
  • Works under close supervision on most aspects of assignments.
  • Minimum 2 or more years of structural engineering design experience.
  • Apply engineering techniques with increasing independence.
  • May lead small projects or defined portions of larger projects

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Some prior experience (academic, internship, or entry-level professional) performing structural or civil design and drafting.
  • Exposure to structural analysis and design software such as RISA 2D/3D, RISA Foundation, Enercalc, L-PILE, or similar tools.
  • Prior exposure to renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities

  • Create structural engineering plans, details, and calculations for renewable energy and substation projects.
  • Design concrete and steel foundations for project equipment to meet jurisdictional requirements at local, state, and federal levels across varying geotechnical conditions.
  • Perform design tasks on small projects or defined portions of larger projects.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria; Engineer II roles apply these with increasing independence and judgment.
  • Acquire and apply knowledge of renewable energy system layouts and components such as modules, racking, inverters, and Balance of Systems (BOS).
  • Manage time efficiently across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers and internal stakeholders to align on scope, schedule, and expectations.
  • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Collaboratively use engineering judgment to resolve moderately complex design challenges with guidance from senior staff.
  • Ensure work complies with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
  • Receive direction on unconventional or complex problems and proposed solutions.
  • Receive a thorough review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.
  • Perform essential duties, including meeting deliverables and deadlines.
