About The Position

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer - Bridges & Transportation Structures who has a passion for design and supporting junior Engineers for our Western Pennsylvania Area (WPA) offices. This role can be based out of our Pittsburgh, PA, or Morgantown, WV office on a hybrid basis. In this role, the ideal candidate will act as a Structural Design Lead on a variety of exciting, often highly visible pursuits and projects. The individual will have overall responsibility for the structural aspects of these projects and inter-discipline coordination of all technical issues with other discipline leads from initial design through technical support during the construction phase. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and six (6) years of relevant experience in transportation structures or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience
  • Professional Engineer License (PE)

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of related design experience
  • Willing to obtain PE License reciprocity in the jurisdiction/s of the projects
  • Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Project experience with PennDOT and/or other State DOTs
  • Proficiency with CAD and similar computer software
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods or projects with early contractor involvement

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all structural engineering technical aspects of pursuits and projects with other disciplines and in support of the Project/Design Manager.
  • Ensure the structural design is completed in accordance with the contract guidelines and design documents.
  • Establish structural scope, work plan and work schedule in support of the Project Manager.
  • Lead all elements of conceptual, preliminary and detailed final design of new bridges and rehabilitation or reconstruction of existing bridges.
  • Provide technical guidance and perform quality control reviews of design calculations, drawings and other contract documents.
  • Prepare and/or guide the development of technical specifications and construction cost estimates.
  • Manage groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists towards development of structural design documents and contract deliverables with minimal guidance or supervision.
  • Assure conformance with contractual obligations by ensuring that design documents are reviewed and approved prior to release to the client.
  • Train, mentor and develop staff and support career growth opportunities for staff.
  • Support marketing coordination and proposal preparation.
  • Participate in proposal interviews.
  • Ensure that QA/QC procedures are being implemented and ensure the technical quality of deliverables.
  • Lead responses to client’s comments on structural design elements of the deliverables.
  • Anticipate potential budget and schedule impacts and initiate plans for alternative actions.
  • Incorporate innovation in design and delivery.
