About The Position

The Structural Designer is responsible for the creation of cost-effective, structurally sound traditional and protective packaging as well as point-of-purchase (POP) display solutions. This role includes redesigning elements for improved cost, performance, and functionality while providing technical support to internal teams (Sales, Project Management, Graphic Design, Production, Fulfillment Services) and clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in packaging design, a solid understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, and proficiency in design tools such as ArtiosCAD.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of packaging design experience with a strong portfolio.
Comprehensive knowledge of the design process from concept to production.
Strong understanding of costing systems and manufacturing processes to optimize profitability and compatibility with production equipment.
Familiarity with ISTA testing requirements for packaging.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Positive, “can-do” attitude with a focus on delivering high-quality work.
College education in CAD, drafting, design, or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
Familiarity with ArtiosCAD, Kongsberg table, and other design tools.
Knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to read measurements with speed and accuracy.
Skilled in performing calculations for figures such as percentages, measurements, volume, and rates.
Knowledge of product layouts, quality specifications, and production standards.
Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
Must be able to work in environments with noise, mechanical parts, humidity, and other physical demands.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency with Illustrator, Photoshop, and 3D design tools is a plus
Preferred candidates with 10+ years of experience in packaging or related fields.
Background in graphics, drawing, or color concepts is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Design packaging solutions for corrugated boxes and other materials
Collaborate with Sales to understand client needs and provide customized solutions.
Develop designs based on appearance, functionality, serviceability, materials, production methods, and client/retail specifications.
Use ArtiosCAD and other software to create detailed designs and prototypes.
Prepare working drawings from sketches and design specifications.
Inspect and construct packaging samples to ensure the final product meets requirements.
Present design concepts to clients, either individually or in collaboration with Sales.
Accurately generate Bill of Materials, drawing specifications, pallet layouts, and die lines.
Manage tight deadlines and work outside regular hours to meet client needs.
