About The Position

The Structural Designer position is responsible for providing engineering and estimation support for pre-order & post-order pursuits, contract support for drafting, and assisting outsourced engineering providers, for Self- Storage and Pre-Engineered Metal Building projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering or related construction engineering field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience for engineering setting with design experience.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience with MBS,
  • Ability to successfully provide engineering estimates and design support and documentation for the sale and installation of our metal building products.
  • Ability to share knowledge of steel structural and light gauge steel building designs, means, and methods.
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize tasks, and be proactive in follow-up on questions from internal and external customers.
  • Ability to investigate problems and potential errors to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Display proficiency in AutoCAD or comparable design software, such as MBS.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and display exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work within a cooperative team environment as well as perform assignments autonomously.

Nice To Haves

  • Multiple registrations.
  • Proficiency in Risa 3d or similar structural design software.
  • Experience with Risa 3d, and/or Ram Steel.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering estimates for PEMB buildings during the quotation period for all project complexities (Standard, Medium, Complex).
  • Support the estimation/sales department as directed by the Design Services Manager (DSM) and Executive Managers.
  • Review project documents at order entry, schedule kickoff meetings, and ensure clarity on estimate assumptions.
  • Deliver clear design direction for complex self-storage or PEMB projects using AutoCAD, MBS, TEKLA, or similar drafting tools.
  • Perform design work, prepare supporting documentation (approvals, design calculations), and ensure compliance with U.S. building codes.
  • Design project-specific components or analyze existing projects to meet structural criteria and variation orders.
  • Review third-party engineered projects for compliance with company standards and provide feedback/corrections.
  • Mentor new department personnel and identify opportunities for value engineering in building designs/estimates.
  • Meet multiple project deadlines while maintaining accuracy; learn and apply additional development software as required.
  • Communicate with internal/external customers and engineering teams to clarify scope, status, and schedules; perform KPIs per departmental/divisional goals.
  • Performs other duties and activities related to the department as necessary to support overall operations and responsibilities, even if not specifically listed above.
