The City is seeking a reliable and skilled Streets Technician II to support the maintenance, repair, and installation of street infrastructure, drainage systems, and public right-of-ways. This hands-on role is essential to keeping City streets safe, accessible, and well maintained year-round. Requirements

  • Basic understanding of public works, street infrastructure construction, operation, and maintenance, traffic sign design and pavement marking standards per MUTCD.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment used in the maintenance and repair of street infrastructure.
  • Basic understanding of materials: asphalt, concrete, tack oil, road base, sand, salt, magnesium chloride, latex paint, glass beads, preformed tape, thermoplastic, and herbicides.
  • Basic knowledge of city safety policies and procedures.
  • Basic Knowledge of flagging, signing, and coning procedures, and the ability to work safely in heavy traffic work zones.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide range of equipment, including loaders, backhoes, asphalt rollers, concrete saws, hydro-tampers, mowing tractors, truck trailers, forklifts, skid-steers, sidewalk sweepers, gas-powered post drivers, hydraulic post pullers, paint machines, rolled tape applicators, push tamper carts, parking lot paint stripers, and line eradicators.
  • Ability to install and retrieve traffic road tubes, perform manual traffic counts, download traffic counter data, and conduct site distance studies.
  • Proficiency in using computer hardware and software for record-keeping, sign fabrication, and operational support.
  • Strong ability to adapt and change focus to meet customer needs and operational demands.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must have or obtain within six months of hire: BNSF Railroad Safety Certification. Union Pacific Railroad Safety Certification. First Aid/CPR/AED. Flagger Certification. Incident Command System (ICS) ICS-100 Certification.
  • Expected to obtain 34 hours of approved coursework related to Public Work Construction and Maintenance during the course of employment at this level.
  • A valid Colorado CDL Class B drivers license within six months of hire.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
  • This is a safety sensitive position requiring participation in a pre-employment, for-cause and random drug testing program.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
  • In addition, all CDL positions require successful completion of a physical examination with a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen to ensure the employee meets the medical standards necessary for safe vehicle operation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment and vehicles, including tandem axle dump trucks with trailers and snow removal equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with traffic signs and markings operations, asphalt patching, concrete work, drainage maintenance, including snow and ice control, and specialized tasks such as sign fabrication and pavement marking application.
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements, including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Addresses citizen/customer concerns, escalating complex issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Operates, inspects and maintains assigned equipment.
  • Responds to after-hour emergencies within 30 minutes for snow and ice control, flooding, or other urgent situations as needed.
  • Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.
  • Maintains streets, drainage ways, and right-of-ways through activities such as snow and ice control operations, asphalt patching, concrete forming and finishing, drainage way maintenance, culvert installation, storm grate maintenance, street sweeping, sidewalk and handicap ramp sweeping, street island cleaning, trash cleanup, mowing operations, string trimmer operations, weed spraying, and dump truck operation.
  • Designs, fabricates, installs, and maintains traffic signs and specialty signs using a computerized sign fabrication system.
  • Ensures signs meet MUTCD retro-reflectivity and spacing specifications, are free from obstructions, graffiti, stickers, or tree limbs, and are properly aligned.
  • Installs and maintains pavement markings, including centerlines, bike trails, edge lines, crosswalks, and stop bars, using paint, thermoplastic, or tape materials.
  • Operates, inspects, and maintains specialized equipment, including front-end loaders, backhoes, asphalt rollers, concrete saws, hydro-tampers, slope and industrial mowing tractors, truck trailers, forklifts, sidewalk sweepers, skid-steers, portable arrow boards, gas-powered post drivers, hydraulic post pullers, over-the-road paint machines, rolled tape applicators, push tamper carts, parking lot paint stripers, and line eradicators.
  • Performs shop and yard maintenance.
  • Assists in loading and cleaning road marking machines, including handling latex paint, glass beads, water, and fuel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
