About The Position

Seasonal Maintenance Worker to work fulltime for nine months in the Streets/Stormwater/Sewer division of the City of Port Townsend Public Works Department. $24.52/hour, 40 hours per week, eligible for overtime BENEFITS Eligible for medical benefits for employee and dependents up to age 26 (medical only, not dental or vision insurance) Accrues 1 hour of sick time per 40 hours worked, eligible for WA State PERS, & able to access City's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) SCHEDULE Through March 30: 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Mon-Fri April 1-May 22: 6 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with every other Friday off May 26-Sept. 4: 6 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Mon-Thurs Sept. 8-end of term: 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Mon-Fri JOB SUMMARY Performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to repair work to various streets, wastewater collection and stormwater collection.

  • Valid Washington driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
  • Must pass criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior streets, stormwater, or sewer experience.
  • Experience working with construction equipment.
  • Experience in a public setting.
  • Washington State Flagger certification course.
  • First AidCPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in patching roads, loading, raking and shoveling asphalt.
  • Assists in the maintenance and repairs of wastewater and storm water facilities.
  • Performs a variety of routine repair and maintenance tasks on equipment and reports the need for major repairs.
  • Safely operates portable equipment and small hand and power tools.
  • Performs landscaping within the right-of-way
  • Performs additional construction and maintenance tasks such as vegetation control, striping, signing, sewer and stormwater system cleaning, garbage control, right of way maintenance, sweeping, snow removal, pothole patching, special projects, and other duties as assigned
  • Serves as a flagger for traffic control.
  • Assists in the painting of street parking and crosswalks.
  • Sets out and take down traffic control devices.
  • Manually removes unwanted weeds from rights-of-way and developed landscapes and/or native areas.
  • Tracks work activities in online work order system
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Crew Chief or Operations Manager.
